Opie Taylor (Ron Howard) is your typical busy kid. He loves to play sports. Baseball and football are his favorites, plus fishing with his father. He's been known to play the piano, guitar and bugle, and once joined a rock 'n' roll band called the Sound Committee.
Opie is a good student, though he once got an F in arithmetic. His best friends are Johnny Paul Jason, Howie Pruitt and later Arnol Bailey. His girlfiends include snaggle-toothed Mary Wiggins and Charlotte (First grade). Sharon and Karen (Fifth grade), and Mary Alice Carter (Junior high).
