Floyd the Barber (Howard McNear) learned his trade in barber college, where he also picked up a little Latin. His dream is to have a shop with "two chairs, no waiting." For a short while, he did. Only the second barber turned out to be a bookie.
Floyd's ancestors were among Mayberry's founders. Floyd himself is active in Mayberry affairs - including the town council, the town band, the Greater Mayberry Historical society and Tourist Bureau, Ltd., and The Regal Order of the Golden Door to Good Fellowship. He also grows prize-winning pansies and once portrayed John Mayberry in the Founders Day program.
In his spare time, Floyd cuts hair.
