February 26, 2006 - Msg 915: An Ode to Barney

Heaven's now a better place, Barney Fife is on patrol.
The pearly gates were opened up, and through them he did stroll
God has called him up, to be there by his side
I'm sure that God is laughing, and ole Barn' is filled with pride
A bullet in his pocket, his ticketbook in hand
He walks the streets of Heaven, Angels sing at his command
The world just seems so somber, so cold and full of strife
We need more towns like Mayberry, with Andy, Bee, and Barney Fife

February 26, 2006 - Msg 995: I am 44 years old and still consider Andy Griffith's show the greatest. He and Don had the most unique chemistry and I still laugh at each episode as if I am watching it for the first time. The show just wasn't the same when Mr. Knotts left the show. I still use several of his phrases in the classroom! He was truly an American icon.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 996: I too had many friends call to tell me about the passing of Don Knotts. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan. I feel that we have lost one of the greatest comedians of all time. I was introduced to Mr. Knotts through Barney Fife, but through the years I have found that every character that he has done is pure gold. I feel as though I have lost a dear friend.I've wept many times since I've heard the news.

Don, We will miss you. "Adios Amigo"

February 26, 2006 - Msg 997: I feel such sadness at the loss of Don Knotts -- He was and forever will remain Fearless Fife:) I am 43 years old and have no memory of life before watching the Andy Griffith Show --It has been a staple in my life all these years -- I have so many special memories of watching this show with my 84 year old parents, sisters, nieces and nephews over the years --One of the only shows that can be shared across the generations-- The friendship and respect between Andy, Barney and the town of Mayberry is a moral compass our world desperately needs a reminder of-- Thanks for the laughs and the tears over the years, Barn!

February 26, 2006 - Msg 999: I will miss Barn, been watching him since 1960. He's a part of every day of my life. Hey to you and yours. Jerry, Norman

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1000: Barn, even though the Andy Griffith show is greatness, it went downhill after you left. Don, thank you for sharing your talent with us and making us laugh time and again. You were not handsome or attractive in the eys of Hollywood, but you were loved by all of us. These tributes are a testament to your humility and charm. The world should have more Andy Griffiths and Don Knottses and fewer of some of the celebrities we are left with. Rest in Peace. God bless you.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1001: Don Knotts may be gone, but Barney Fife lives on. RIP, Don.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1002: Barney Fife: The last big buy was my mom's and dad's anniversary present.
Andy Taylor: What'd ya get 'em?
Barney Fife: A septic tank.
Andy Taylor: For their anniversary?
Barney Fife: They're awful hard to buy for. Besides, it was something they could use. They were really thrilled. It had two tons of concrete in it. All steel reinforced.
Andy Taylor: You're a fine son, Barn.
Barney Fife: I try.

If this is so funny (which it is), then why am I crying so much inside.

Love you Barney. We all do. R.I.P.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1004: I grew up watching The Andy Griffith Show, in reruns, with my dad, who was a cop for 35 years. The show remains our collective favorite, mainly because of Don Knotts. We saw him in "Harvey" at the New Theater in Kansas City in the early 90's. He was great. I later used one of the actors in the production for commercial work (I'm an ad writer) and he confirmed that Don was just as great as we all always assumed he was. And quite the ladies man to boot!

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1005: Don Knotts and Lucille Ball were my two most favorite comedianes. They are bot gone now. But the good thing about both of them is we have the DVD releases to watch over and over again. I really enjoy watching "The Andy Griffith Show" all the time. Sometimes when I am depressed I just watch ol' Barney on TV to help me feel better. When I heard about the news on Saturday, I immeaditly decided to buy a paper because one day it will be a treasured keepsake. I am sorry that I didn't have the chance to meet him and tell him how much of a fan I was of him. My grandmother and I ALWAYS watched "The Andy Griffith Show" when we had a chance. I think it is weird that right before the legendary Don Knotts died the last season of "The Andy Griffith Show" was released. Here what they said when Lucy died in '89 "They needed a laugh in Heaven"

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1006: I was 12 when TAGS show first aired and have loved it all these years. When Don Knotts left it created an indescribable void. So many memories flood my mind but some of my favorites are "of course you smell gas, what do you think this car runs on - coal?" (Barney's Car), talking to Juanita on the phone and Barney trying to explain the Emancipation Proclamation and recite the Preamble. What a treasure he was and will always be. In the past several years we have had the opportunity to watch Don Knotts perform at a local dinner theatre and the ovations were resounding . . . not just for that evening's performance but for a lifetime of memories. He was one of the very best and he was LOVED.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1008: MY WIFE AND I HAVE TALKED MANY TIMES OF THE DAY THAT YOU WOULD PASS AWAY INTO IMMORTALITY. YOU WERE ONE OF THE GREATEST ACTORS EVER. YOU WAS BARNEY AND BARNEY WAS YOU. WE AND THE WHOLE WORLD HAVE LOST A FAMILY MEMBER WITH YOUR PASSING. BUT YOU WILL ALWAYS BE ALIVE AS WE WATCH "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW" EVERY TIME IT IS ON TV AND WATCH SUCH GREAT MOVIES AS "THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG" AND "THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN." WE WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER. TELL THE OTHERS THERE WITH YOU "HELLO."
WE LOVE YOU VERY MUCH,

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1009: I loved Mr. Knotts since I was a little girl sneaking out of my bedroom at my grandparents house to listen to the TV as they watched the Andy Griffith Show. My grandfather was usually so stern but Don Knotts would crack him up! I remember the magic of the sound of his laughter and instantly loved Don Knotts for it. Years later when I was in the middle of chemotherapy I rediscovered the genius of Mr. Knotts when I was given a DVD collection. I am so sad that we have lost so great a talent, but I am so glad that his brilliant performances are preserved forever. I just know God gave him his amazing talent to spread joy to so many of us. To the family of Mr. Knotts: Thank you and God Bless You.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1010: Good Night our precious Barney boy. We will miss you most deeply. The world will be a sadder place without you Don Knotts. What an amazing talent you were. The world will never see the likes of you again.

I have watched Barney my entire life, but I have had the absolute joy to rewatch Seasons 1-5 (through DVD) over the last six months with my wife, every episode. Laughing at every one of Barneys jokes. They are so timeless, and the TAGS is so much better than anything on tv today. The only DVD TV Seasons I've bought are TAGS and Three's Company and that's due to Don Knotts. My prayers go out to the family of Don Knotts. But the wonderful thing about all of us who love "Barney" is that "Barney" will live on forever. Thank You.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1027: I never meet Don Knotts, but atleast 3-4 times a week, sometimes more, his name is brougt up in conversations during work. He just seemed to be a all around good guy. I never knew him as Don Knotts, its always Barney, I know he stared in many other shows and films but the "Andy Griffith Show" just seemed to set him out. I am only 23 but everynight at 5:30pm and sometimes 9:00pm I always watch, even thoguh I know the show word for word, Its still my favorite show. I just wish all shows could have the moral and good ethics that "the andy griffth show" brought to the telivison world. Barney Fife AKA Don Knotts. you will be missed in my household and I know many many more, I can see you as a person who is in a better place with no worries of the world to troble you. February 26, 2006 - Msg 1031: Timing is everything. Don Knotts had the ability to time perfectly a line, a look and have the ability to look you in the face with conviction. I don't see that today in entertainers. You'll be missed Don. Thank you for filling our hearts with laughter. Thank God for being able to go back in time with the shows on DVD. God Bless you...

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1032: Don Knotts, you will be missed. As some have said, you were like a piece of my family. You brought laughter to all and touch there hearts too. With the lack of morality in television today its still wonderful to know that we as a family can still "travel" back in time and relive and more importantly learn from those quality, humorous, life lessons that you so creatively taught us all. Again, you will be severly missed.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1035: I was the second place finisher in the Mayberry Trivia Tournament on the John-Boy and Billy Big Show and I think that Don Knotts' portrayal of Barney Fife is the best TV character ever created. It says alot about him and the show that alot of people had rather watch an episode that they've seen too many times to count than to watch the crap that is on TV today. Mayberry was a special place and Don Knotts was one of the main reasons that it will always remain very special. I hope the reruns never stop.

February 26, 2006 - Msg 1042: I saw Don on stage just over two years ago at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. It was the Andy Griffith Reunion.
