February 27, 2006 - Msg 1710: We have lost another cast member of this timeless and beloved show. TAGS is by far a superior standard in American TV, and Don Knotts as Barney Fife was the comedic genius that made watching and re-watching such a pleasure. The physical man may be gone, but his soul and spirit live on in our hearts and minds. I knew his health had been failing, but his passing was still a unexpected sadness that should be a reminder to us all. Be ready and any and all times to die and meet our Maker. Let us all pray for Don's family and close friends. We know that they are greiving, as we all are greiving the death and loss of our dear friend. Thankfully, we can still enjoy Don's huge talent and enjoy that friendship every time we watch a Barney Fife episode of TAGS. And more importantly, I hope Don was a born-again Christian, for Jesus said "I am the ressurection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die" (John 11:25-26) If so, I can take solace in the fact that Don is forever in a place even better than Mayberry. February 27, 2006 - Msg 1731: It is a really sad day to hear about Don Knotts, one of T.V.'s greatest, passing away. The Andy Griffith Show is the main priority of my day. I am retired and work part-time in the a.m. which enables me to watch TAGS when it is on. If I am not home at that time, I will tape it. I wish Don Knotts family and his good friend Andy Griffith my deepest sympathy. We have all lost a true American Icon.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1732: Barn, thanks for all the memories. We will truly miss you. Martin

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1733: In the end we can't really predict how future generations will remember Don Knotts. Maybe he'll just be a name in a book on the history of television, or maybe they'll teach an entire course on him?

We can't judge fame as it is fleeting, nor can we predict the taste of future generations. But we don't have to.

For what we can say here, and now, is that Don Knotts, through his remarkable talent, and efforts made us laugh.

He managed to make us laugh, and in a way that didn't put down other people, which is all too rare.

What is in a laugh you might ask?

A laugh is a priceless gift. It is a moment of forgetting about our troubles.
A laugh is a union with the child within us all. A laugh makes us all feel better for having allowed it into our lives.

And Don made us laugh.

In this sense Don made the world a better place. His legacy lives on in his characters, and his art.

Thanks Don for making me laugh!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1734: Don, you were an American Icon. February 27, 2006 - Msg 1817: Thank You Don Knotts for a lifetime of wonderful memories. February 27, 2006 - Msg 1818: If you like friendly down home folks,
And Southern hospitality
When you're just bound to fall in love
With our little town of Mayberry.
When you walk the streets that Andy walked,
The many sights that you will see,
Will leave no doubt as to what inspired him,
To make his hometown Mayberry.
When you visit Floyd's Barber shop,
And Snappy lunch, over on Main Street,
You'll not see a single stranger,
Only friends you've yet to meet.
You should visit our post office,
Where Barney still gets mail,
And then the old police station,
To see if Otis is in jail.
There is one more special place,
That everyone should see,
It's the knob on Mt. Pilot to our south,
That stands majestically.
I'm sure that when years have fled,
You'll have a pleasant memory,
Of the friendly folks and lovely town,
That we proudly call Mayberry.
by George Randall
We picked up this little poem at the main st. emporium when we were in Mt Airy, N.C. last fall. There is much to see there, and SO much is dedicated to the fine show and it's characters.
If you ever get a chance to go and spend a day or two around town, take time to walk downtown and visit the sights and places now known as Mayberry.
You can even ride in the old squad car parked at Wally's service station during the day and the Mayberry Motor Inn at night.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1838: It is with deep sadness I say good bye to the funniest man I have ever known. My condolences to his family and friends. I will always remember him with fondness and for the smiles he brought to me and my chapter. February 27, 2006 - Msg 1839: God Bless you Mr. Knotts, family & friends. This world was truly, truly a better place for having him in it. I feel like I have lost a beloved relative, everytime I see something on the news I can't help but to shed tears. I've watched the Andy Griffith Show, Three's Company and Mr. Knotts movies since I was practically on this earth and think he was genuine and the best of the best! Here is a poem I recently got from the internet...Don Knotts will continue to live in all our hearts...and he would probably want us to remember him like this poem says.
Don't Cry For Me

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not here, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not here, I did not die.
