I love him and the old show and feel many times that Mayberry is the place I would love to live the rest of my life. Perhaps heaven is like that now that is a comforting thought. March 08, 2006 - Msg 3339: Barney, Andy, Opie, Aunt Bea, Floyd, Thelma Lou and the whole Maybery family touched us all. But Barney was the Master of revealing our inner frailities and weaknesses - while on the outside we tried to portray our intelligence and strength. I am still touched by this gentleman's performances, and I still laugh at the incredible timing and facial expressions of this comedic genius. Don Knotts - I salute you for your contributions in making us laugh and helping us all find that simple, small town feeling.
Tell everyone in heaven, "Goober says hey."

March 08, 2006 - Msg 3342: Watching the show takes me back to childhood, even if I am only watching between commercials of another program. Is there any other show that you can watch for 2 minutes and know what the entire episode is about? Is there any other show that leaves you with the "warm fuzzies" like Mayberry? The episodes without Barney are like spagetti without the parmesan--still good, but missing something! God Bless Don, and his family. He will be missed. Debbie in Indiana

March 08, 2006 - Msg 3343: Thanks Barney, You were the best!

March 08, 2006 - Msg 3344: I am the editor of a small weekly newspaper in Stewartville, Minn., population 5,700. I have been a big fan of The Andy Griffith Show for many years. I wanted to share a brief column I wrote for the March 7 edition of our paper. Here it is:
In one of the many funny scenes from "The Andy Griffith Show," Barney gives Opie a lesson in nature by describing how birds talk to each other.
When birds are feeling chipper, Barney says, they'll chirp that way, as if to say, "Gee, I'm feeling good." But if they're feeling down, they'll chirp that way, too, as if to say, "Gee, I'm feeling sad."
Barney concludes his little lesson by waxing philosophical about the beauty of nature. "The ways of the creatures of the wild are many and wonderful," he says.
Don Knotts, the man who gave Barney Fife his childlike face, his enormous bravado and a good heart underneath it all, died in late February. As a huge fan of "The Andy Griffith Show," I was touched by the news more deeply than I could have imagined. I guess that's because Barney Fife's antics brought me so much joy over the years.
The relationship between Andy and Barney made "The Andy Griffith Show" brilliant. They clowned around and teased each other, but respected and loved each other, too. Andy was always in Barney's corner, supporting him, guiding him and helping him become a better deputy.
Barney was a funny character, but I also enjoy the scenes when he became serious. In one episode, Andy is on trial on trumped-up charges and is in danger of losing his job. Barney testifies about something that Andy has taught him: "When you're a lawman and you're dealing with people, you do a whole lot better if you go not so much by the book, but by the heart." Those words saved Andy's job.
Don Knotts' death? "Gee, I'm feeling sad."
Well, that was the column. Thank you for letting me share. God bless you all.
Mark in Stewartville, Minn.

His watching over Opie when Andy was busy, complete with his own words of wisdom is what we should all be doing for our children today. Too bad more people aren't as incapacitated in loading guns as Barny was; a few less dead bodies in our morgues would be a blessing. And Don, we knew you weren't just the character you played, but a very important part of our country's history as a good solid citizen. I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Knotts in August of 2000. I got a kick out of the fact that his favorite episodes of TAGS were the same ones that are my favorites:
THE PICKLE STORY &
BARNEY AND THE CHOIR

He was truly an American original and I am glad that we can remember him every time we see Barney on The Andy Griffith show reruns.

I especially enjoyed Don's performances in THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN and THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG.

March 09, 2006 - Msg 3401: I believe Don Knotts was one of the greatest physical comedians in the history of TV. He bumbled through life like most of us, he portrayed his charactors like we really are, fumbling through life's grand journey. March 09, 2006 - Msg 3429: Don Knotts was an incredible gift from God to this world. How deeply he will be missed. I must say that one of my two dreams has died, I hoped to some day meet him in person and tell him how many times he has cheered my heart. My other dream? To meet Andy Griffith. My prayers are with Mr. Knott's family for they know a much deeper loss than we Barney fans. The great news is that as long as television doesn't totally go down the drain we will always have pieces of him and his brilliance with us!! Karen Leach, Knoxville, TN

March 09, 2006 - Msg 3430: Thanks, Don. I turned 59 years old the day Don died, and still watch the show several times a week. It is a slice of life, and oh how I wish life could be like that now. I have 3 sets of DVD's. the Mayberry cookbook, and lots of other memorabilia that I will never part with. Ron Howard and Andy, my heart goes out to you both, as I know you were "family" in every sense of the word. Sympathy also to Don's real family. His comedic abilities will be sorely missed. Sharon Kerns, Canon City, Co.

March 09, 2006 - Msg 3434: It is my opinion that Don Knotts was a misunderstood genuis. He was a very cacpable actor and if he were still with us, and able to act, I feel that he would give today's "Stars" a run for their money. My favorite episode would have to be "Count Van Telekey" (sp?) Of all Mr. Knotts' movies, "Private Eyes" with Tim Conway is my favorite. I believe that as long as we remember what Barney taught us he will never be away from us. Jeff from Greenwood, La.

March 10, 2006 - Msg 3438: I grew up loving Don Knotts and his comedy either as Deputy Fife or his movies. He always made me smile and laugh. I've just retired as a Deputy in the state of MD and I used to carried a Barney Fife Driver's Licence in My sheriff's I.D. case with me. And as a joke I would wear it proudly as my I.D. next to my badge in the office and pull out a single 40 cal bullet from my pocket, and do my best Deputy Fife routine to make our clerks laugh. Miss you Deputy Fife 10-4 and 10-7 end of watch...........................

March 10, 2006 - Msg 3443: The quaint town of Mayberry and the infamous Barney Fife offered the wholesomeness of an unmatchable era that meant the world to so many people who faithfully watched. March 10, 2006 - Msg 3444: March 10. 2006 - msg 3443: We used to have Mayberry Days on a farm near our home, which was
built to look like the filling station on Mayberry. For a number of years, the farm owner
would invite everyone to see the Mayberry cast,
get autographs, pictures, etc. We had the opportunity to meet Barney, Charlene Darling,
and many other of the cast members. It was always
a highlight of my summer. Our two sons, and three
grandsons still watch all the episodes. It is the
favorite program of theirs since they were in their teens, and now that they are grown, it is
still their favorite program. We will miss Don
deeply.

March 10, 2006 - Msg 3445: The world will miss the humor of the character Barney Fife. I think one of the funniest moments on the AGS was when Rafe and Andy asked Barney to sing "A Capella". That scene makes me laugh just thinking of it. I agree that when Don left the show, it lost something. But luckily, we can still enjoy his contribution via reruns. Our family has watched the shows and had wonderful evenings just watching and laughing. Don Knotts, 'you beat all'. RIP Don Knotts, you will be missed.

March 10, 2006 - Msg 3461: DEAR DON.... I love all your movies.. As with many in my family, THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW was/is the family favorite.... In the late 1980's and 1990's rerun after rerun on video was part of my first date with whoever I was on the date with. The TAGS were always weeved within the date without a discussion first. If there was not a favorable reaction before, or at least during the episodes, then there was really no need for a second date with them. I knew then that I would spend much of my free time in the future (and I have) with the Mayberry gang...... DON KNOTTS, I will NEVER miss you.. because you can NEVER leave me.

March 11, 2006 - Msg 3480: I'll never forget going to see Don Knotts in a the play, "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" here in my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. When he appeared on stage the whole crowd broke out into thunderous applause and a standing ovation that lasted until he acknowledged the heartfelt applause with a humble nod of his head and a shy smile. I think we felt like he belonged to us in some special way because we all identified with his loveable portrayal of an imperfect person who always wanted to do his best to mske his town, his best friend and his community proud. We knew he wasn't really from NC, but proudly adopted him as our own. I know he will be missed by fans
everywhere and my thoughts are with his family and with his great friend Andy Griffith.

March 11, 2006 - Msg 3484: I grew up watching the Andy Griffith show every Monday night. No matter how much homework I had, I was going to set aside the time to watch it. And now, 40 years later - I doubly enjoy watching it. It helps me unwind. No matter how many times, I 've seen an episode - I will watch it. Don, as Barney, you were so funny and so commical. "Nip it in the bud!" as you would say. I love the car episode - when you bought your first car. The friendship you had with Thelma Lou and Andy and Helen. By far, you're my favorite comedian. And by far as well, Barney Fife is my all time favorite tv character. Thank you for what you gave of yourself - good clean humor and fun. You will be missed. March 11, 2006 - Msg 3488: I've been watching the Andy Griffith Show since I was a small child. One of the great things about the show, is that it was hilariously funny and CLEAN Humor. It is almost unheard of in this day & time for a show to still be in syndication for 46 years. But that just shows how much people love and appreciate the down-home themes and genuine performances of the cast. Barney, I for one will miss you. You provided me with lots of laughs, and great times while watching the show. I raised my 3 children watching, and laughing at your antics, and to this day, my teenagers still join me on the couch, to watch The Andy Griffith Show. You'll be Greatly Missed. You had a great run, and this world is a better place for having you in it!! My Prayer and Condolences go out to you Family & Loved Ones. Thanks for the Memories !!!
