April 04, 2006 - Msg 3847: My husband and I started watching reruns of TAGS when we were dating in college. His little, old house had no cable so we watched VHS tapes of TAGS over & over. We now have a DVD collection and our 5 year old son loves it as much as we do. TAGS is on at our house every day. Our little boy even beats us at the TAGS trivia game! He's always quoting Barney. His favorite quote seems to be, "Boy giraffes are selfish..." We truly love Mayberry, the characters and the life they represent. Sadly we will miss Don but thankfully Barney will live on forever! Thanks for the laughs Barn!

April 08, 2006 - Msg 3878: My heart broke the day I learned of the passing of a dear friend, Don Knotts aka:Barney Fife. I cried every time I saw the TV Land clips of him. I grew up watching TAGS. Barney brought much joy and laughter into my life. The early episodes with him in it are the best. I still watch TAGS almost everyday and still enjoy them as if I am watching them for the first time. His movie, "The Ghost and Mr Chicken" is halarious. Thanks for the memories Barn and TAGS.

April 09, 2006 - Msg 3883: Don Knotts (Barney Fife) You will be missed but not forgoten! You might be looking down here to see what we are saying about you, so here goes. I just loved how you acted in the Andy Griffith Show, sometimes I wanted to help you get out of a bind. I used to be a deputy in Nebraska and was even called Barney cause of my small frame size. I bought a remake of one of the Mayberry Sheriffs cars and plan on taking it to car shows. I have tons of Barney things that will be displayed in the car. Barney you will never be forgot when they see me coming and look at the car parked at car shows! Butch Hogan from Nebraska

April 09, 2006 - Msg 3884: I'll never be tired of Barney Fife. My kids love the shows. It's actually a show we can watch and not worry about the content. I love Andy Griffith too, but the show isn't the same without Don Knotts. I actually cried when I found out he died. It really surprised me. I don't normally get upset over the death of a celebrity. But Don was different. He always felt like family to me. I guess that's strange but I'll really miss knowing that he's on earth with the rest of us. He'll always live on in my heart.

April 10, 2006 - Msg 3891: Don Knotts- What a wonderful legacy you leave behind. In this high tech, multi-cultural, 24/7, maxed-out world we live, generations of people are still entertained by the simple, honest, well intentioned, and good hearted character you created in that black and white world of Mayberry. Your character, and the lessons learned each show, are all eternal........

Bless you. Kirk in Abingdon, VA.

April 10, 2006 - Msg 3892: I have been crying reading all of these...I too was so sad to hear of Don Knott's death...I loved the quote by Sam Grapevine from Texas who quoted the line "it's therapetic." That was such a brilliantly delivered line by the wonderful Don Knotts. (I'm an actor myself and I've tried to figure out how he delivers that line and I can't for the life of me do it!) I am amazed now that I am an adult (38) watching the episodes on DVD what a very, very skilled actor Don Knotts was. He seems to have done such intricate "homework" on his role for EVERY episode! There was always a few things going on in "Barney's" thoughts at each moment. I love TAGS. Living out here in the San Francisco Bay Area there are a lot of crazy and snobby people and wathcing Andy and Don and getting to feel like I live in Mayberry for just a little while every day, well, "it's therapetic." It is America at it's best. God Bless Don Knotts and his family and friends. Thank you Don Knotts; my family and I love you. -Shana

April 11, 2006 - Msg 3893: Heaven's golden streets will now be patrolled by televisions greatest deputy. My father has instilled in my life two great, and necessary, attributes.......the desire to know Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, and to know word for word every episode of the GREAT Andy Griffith Show. My father and I have collected each season of the Andy Griffith Show on DVD. Our anticipation of owning the entire black & wite set of episodes was primarly brought on by the late Don Knotts. He made The Andy Griffith show epic in proportion to other TV shows of today. In our eyes, we have lost a family member.

April 11, 2006 - Msg 3894: I met Don on a few occasions during his visits to Morgantown, WV. I am the president of the Barney's Home Town chapter of the AGSRWC. I happened to know the son of his best friend from high school and he would let me know when Don was in town. So, I called his mom and dad to see if I could stop over with my kids to meet him and they said they had an arrangement that they wouldn't do that but did allow me to talk to Don on the phone. Well, Don arranged for us to meet him at his 50th class reunion for Morgantown High School. Pretty cool, huh....kind of took me back to reunion episode of TAGS. I met him at the "appropriately named" NIP-IT golf tournament in Morgantown where he so graciously autographed all of my Andy Griffith Show books for me. Our last meeting was when the renamed the southern part of University Avenue as Don Knotts Beulevard. During that meeting, me and my buddys from the Barney's Home Town group got our picture taken with Don (arranged previously with Don on the telephone). Had to call him back because I was at work and my little boy was all excited when I got home and said guess who I talked to on the phone. He said "I got to talk to Barney". Pretty cool memory if I do say so!
When we were waiting for Don to arrive at his 50th class reunion, My little boy was over by the desk and the girl asked if she could help us and my little boy said "nope, just waitin on Barney". I really have enjoyed these memories and thought I'd share. I will truly miss this Legend of Comedy. He was more like a friend than a celebrity. Gregory L. Michael

April 11, 2006 - Msg 3895: "Barn"... No one can ever give us what you and "Anje" have given us! Thanks just isn't enough. And, Thank God for the DVD's that make you a part of our everyday lives. You are sadly missed in Ontario, Canada.

My two sons (age 9 & 11) can't wait every evening for the Andy Griffith Show on TVLand. Somehow, I am not at all surprised by Don Knotts doing all that was humanly possible to for him to do to make a fan's wish come true. He was a true gentleman in every way. I think Don wanted to be more of a friend to his adoring public than a celebrity. I have the fondest memories of my 49 years rapped up in that TV Show and all of its characters. They will always live in Black & White and will never age. Thank you dear Lord for sending Don Knotts into all of our lives. We are all better for his presence. Thanks Big Barn!

April 20, 2006 - Msg 3942: Don Knotts was one of the most underappreciated and underrated comedians in Hollywood. Today's comedians resort to vulgar profanities and inuendo to produce laughs that can't come close to the hilarity Mr. Knotts could produce with one bugeyed look. And, hey, why don't the TV networks wise up and see that good clean television still gets the votes. Just look at these comments. There aren't too many sit-coms you can sit and watch with your children.

April 20, 2006 - Msg 3949: By far the greatest character in the history of television on by far the greatest show in the history of television.
Celebrities pass away almost weekly but the death of Don seems different. I start thinking that Barney Fife is gone, and get a real sense of loss and void.
The Andy Griffith Show, especially the first five years, is not only a great TV show, it is almost like a way of life.
The death of Don has made this all the more apparent.
I rarely see prime time network TV these days. These networks though, could learn a lot about quality writing, directing, producing, acting, and the many other facets of creating a quality TV show, from the Andy Griffith Show. They could learn what true entertainment and humor is. They could also learn about creating poignant and serious moments.
Network TV these days is mostly a wasteland.
Thankfully, there is TV Land and are tapes and DVDs where we can still join Andy, Barney, Aunt Bee, Opie, Floyd, Otis, Gomer, Goober, Ernest T. Bass, Thelmer Lou, Helen, and the rest of the great cast in Mayberry.
Thanks to Andy and Don and the cast for 45 years plus of great entertainment.
The voice of Don Knotts is now silent, but thankfully there is a high powered supersensitive microphone that allows Barney Fife and the Andy Griffith show to live on forever. Thankyou. Mark Robertson, Independence, Mo.

April 20, 2006 - Msg 3950: God Bless this wonderful man.

April 20, 2006 - Msg 3951: Hey Barn ! Say Hello to Aunt Bea and Otis and Floyd ! Tell you know who, not to break any windows up there ! You have given us all a lot of laughs and pleasure on this little rock we call earth ! There must be a place in Heaven called Mayberry !! Because Mayberry was a little Heaven on Earth as far as I am concerned

April 20, 2006 - Msg 3952: My family and I Love all the characters but if I had to pick one, I suppose “Ol Barn” is my favorite. You see… there is a little bit of Barney in all of us. We all have been guilty of trying too hard and tripping over our best foot forward, or boasted of our accomplishments only to have them backfire in our embarrassed faces. When we see him do it, it seems to make our goofs seem minute. It was just a wonderful character who knew how to bring out the writer’s true intent from the script. In my daily work of seeing patients, my staff knows one of my more common statements, “everything you need to know in life, and about how to live it, can be found in an episode of Mayberry or the Bible.” I stand by that creed and Barn, if you are listening, you will forever live in our hearts and home.

April 21, 2006 - Msg 3953: My thoughts and prayers are with all the family and friends of Don Knotts. I know of no other group of actors, who have for such an extended length of time, have entertained us so well with such a quality show. The Andy Griffith Show has endured for 46 years, and in that time, there was never one curse word used, no murder, no off color jokes, no graphic violence, and no mis-treatment of characters. I beleive that it is time for Hollywood to take notice that the greatest show in the history of television is filled with warm loving characters that care for one another, love each other, and have a respect and love for the traditions that our country was founded on. Mayberry will never die, because it is an ideal of what we were and what we can be again.

Thank you Don,

April 24, 2006 - Msg 3967: I just learned of your passing today while I was watching a DVD of the Andy Griffith show. The world lost a great character actor in you. May Don Knotts and Barney Fife rest peacfully in heaven. I wonder if when the Andy Griffith show was being taped, any of you had any idea how long-lasting and endearing it would remain. Forty plus years old; I grew up watching it, my kids watched it in re-runs, now my grandaughter and great grandaugher watch it with me on DVD, the year old great grandaughter dancing to your theme song. You're still a shinning light in a bleak television world. Shine on in heaven Barn! You're still shinning on in earth! God bless you!

April 27, 2006 - Msg 3983: To The Knotts Family
We lift you up in our prayers and we thank you for sharing this very special man with the world. I believe that he is one of the greatest actors of all time and he was part of a show that is the greatest of all time. My 3 year old son is now asking for Barney and his favorite episode is Barney and the Motorcycle. You never have to worry as a parent what your child might see and they don't make shows like that anymore. Thank you Mr. Knotts for giving us many happy memories around the television sets watching the adventures in Maybery. May your family be comforted and God's Grace be with everyone who has made this show part of the life. It is my prayer that you are now singing as you and Andy were in the Punch in the Nose episode "Sinners Lose All Their Guilty Stain" around the throne of God.

Thanks for the Memories

April 27, 2006 - Msg 3985: Barney, there is definately a vacant chair in our hearts now. it would be so good if the so-called comedians of the current era practiced their craft with the same elegance and proficiency as you did. The only thing that makes me laugh out loud now is that the current day sit-coms actually think they are funny. Today they take people who are not naturally funny and think that if funny lines are written for them that that will make the actor funny and it most always does not. You and the TAGS gang were naturally funny and you set the bar for every one else to follow. As far as I am concerned very few if any have measured up to your lofty standards. TAGS is the only show on TV that I can watch over and over again without getting tired of it.
We will miss you but we will never forget you. R.I.P. Barney Fife
