May 05, 2006 - Msg 4023: The only place to escape from this insane world is TAGS. Don, you brought laughter and that good down home feeling to all who ever watched. You are sorely missed. We only wish there was a real Myberry, and that we resided there. We love you!

May 06, 2006 - Msg 4026: I grew up watching Don Knotts, he is forever in my heart and my head. My God bless him and keep him.

May 06, 2006 - Msg 4027: I used to be tormented and picked on. Many a time it was Don Knotts who changed my tears into laughter. Don never knew me, but he was one of my best friends. Thanks for the good times Barn, you brought a little sunshine to my usually dismal and cloudy days. See you at the pearly gates someday! Marvin K.

May 07, 2006 - Msg 4028: I often look back now and see that growing up in the 50's was somewhat like life in Mayberry. Now we are so far from there and will never get that back. No generation from this point will have ever experienced life like you brought to us on TV Don. It's a good thing there is re-runs. You will be forever missed. Sally

May 07, 2006 - Msg 4029: Several years ago when Three's Company added Don Knotts to its cast, a writer, don't remember who, commented that this was like mixing fine wine with cheap beer. Knotts being the fine wine of course... What a talent. You will be missed...you will be forever loved.

May 07, 2006 - Msg 4030: I am a charter member of a rerun watchers club in Lawrenceburg TN. I have to say that Don Knotts was my favorite cast member. He meant more to me than anyone could ever know. He made me laugh and brought a joy to my life like no other. I always wanted to meet him to tell him thank you. He was one of the reasons I became a police officer. I weighed a huge 135 pounds when I first started as a young man in Law Enforcement. Everyone called me Barney and laughed. I stuck out my chest and said thanks he's my hero. Truth is....he really was....not the persona Barney, but Don Knotts himself. He will always be a hero of mine. In the episode where the birds were released, Opie said, "Pa, the cage sure looks empty". Andy replied, "Yeah son, but don't the trees look nice and full". When Don Knotts died things looked gloomy and empty.....but then I thought, I bet that heaven looked full, bright, and full of smiles.

May 08, 2006 - Msg 4031: My Dad and I alwasys watched this show. My favorite was Barney and his bullet. Dad is gone now but Don I want to thank you for all the joy and that good feeling inside we all got from this show. May 08, 2006 - Msg 4032: Don, you don't know how appreciated you really are. Just ask the other members of my Pensacola based TAGS fan Club. We always watch one episode per meeting, and take a vote on who was whose favorite on that episode, and we've not watched one yet that you weren't voted best. Thanks for the good times, and tumultiuos laughter!!! Love- Barn Wannabe

May 10, 2006 - Msg 4036: I probably learned more about life from Barney than Andy. Thank you for helping me along my way. All of heaven is laughing.

May 10, 2006 - Msg 4037: What can I say about Don Knotts and all the wonderful characters he played through the years. My favorites were Barney and Luther Heggs in The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. What an incredible gift God had given to Don Knotts. As I sit here and think about all the times he made me and my family laugh, I am reminded of one of his many classic lines, "Boy, giraffes are selfish." The Lord Jesus bless and keep a wonderful soul in Mr. Knotts.

May 12, 2006 - Msg 4044: Growing up in the 50s and 60s was really the end of an age. It was a simpler , more civil time in my mind anyway. It's hard to face the fact that we're in that time of life when those we admired are dying off. Our parents included. It's a strange time of life , especially when you look around at the world and everything is so much different. And not in a good way. It's very comforting to put on an Andy Griffith Show DVD or
tape and go back in time and visit for a while. A place where you could just set 'n stare. People were civil and more innocent. It's so sad to see that era is gone. I will miss you Don (Barn). I hope that you are with the Lord. Rest , my friend , rest. Andy G. , Greentown PA

May 12, 2006 - Msg 4045: Don Knotts you brought a smile and laughter to my face when things looked down. You were a genious in what you did. You will be missed. Rest in peace and make the heavens smile.

May 16, 2006 - Msg 4051: As we all miss Mr. Knotts, I was wondering where I can find any comments by Andy Griffith about Don's passing. I know they were great friends and I would really like to see Andy's comments or remembrances. Can anyone help?

the world won't be the same without Don Knotts.
He has always been a wonderful actor and will be
sorely missed.

May 21, 2006 - Msg 4065: As Deputy Barney Fife, Don Knotts could emote dramatic empathy, revel in childish emotions, and master slap-stick with a twitch and energy unmatched. Andy Griffeth's range was just as impressive, all be it less kinetic. They were the perfect comedy duo, and still today under rated. Usually in television, re-runs are a groan. With TAGS, they are a blessing.
"... Ju..Just..."
"Mmm, just?"
"Justice!
"JUSTICE!!"

May 21, 2006 - Msg 4066: No show was better. No one made us laugh more than Don Knotts. God bless his memory.

May 21, 2006 - Msg 4067: it's amazing how a show like that continue to brighten up the spirits of everyone watching. even though i've seen each episode, i could watch them all day long. it reminds me of a more carefree life that i was fortunate enough to experience in my childhood, staying with them in the summer's. the town my grandparents lived in was called walnut springs, texas. it had residents that even acted and resembled Andy, don and the gang. even though that is an era gone by, it's refreshing to see how people were alot more open and caring back then . if i could, i'd drop the computer, cell phone , fancy car and all of the other modern necessities that they thing we should have and move there for good. don was the absolute best. he gave us laughter for a long time, but, as it turns out, not near long enough. god bless and keep "barn" and his family.

May 21, 2006 - Msg 4068: As Barney said in the episode of Colnel Harvey's Indian Elixer... "We all gotta go sometime." Even in difficult times Don had a comedic way of relieving stress.

May 21, 2006 - Msg 4069: The Andy Griffith show was on last night, and once again we were treated with Don Knotts' playing Barney Fife. His portrayal of Barney was, as always, absolutely perfect. He finessed that role into a work of art that is infinitely watchable, lovable, and memorable. Don Knotts may have passed from this life, but he will always be in our hearts. Thank you, Don, for bringing such joy into our lives.

May 21, 2006 - Msg 4070: Don you rock

May 22, 2006 - Msg 4084: Don Knotts, you were an amazing human being. I am only 15 but the Andy Griffith show just might be my favorite. Sometimes Barney made me laugh so hard I'd cry. Ever since I was about 4 years old my parents started showing me all the reruns and I'll never forget those times we could all laugh as a family. One of the great things about you is that when you portrayed Barney you could make the whole room split sides- but you could also have a gentler side as well. From the time when you tried to sing a solo in the choir to when you made that priceless face at Opie's spoiled friend, you were just great. Even though I never got to meet you, I will miss you down in my heart. Thanks for the laughs and God Bless. <3 ~Jessica N.

May 22, 2006 - Msg 4085: I am going on 49 and I've watched TAGS all my life, I have the first 5 seasons on dvd and never do I tire of watching what I believe is the best show to ever air on television. May 26, 2006 - Msg 4097: The Andy Griffith Show continues to thrive without equal 46 years after the first episode aired in 1960. Without doubt, the best television show of all time. From 1960 through 1965, Don Knotts WAS The Andy Griffith show. Even though the show continued to enjoy high ratings following Mr. Knotts' departure in 1965, the flavor just wasn't the same. Don Knotts went from a part time job as a chicken plucker to the greatest comedy actor the world has ever seen. THE true gold standard. Without doubt, heaven is a happier place with the likes of Barney Fife and Ernest T. Bass. Thank you, Mr. Knotts for establishing the institution of Mayberry utopia that will forever be an enduring part of the lives of generations of fans to come.

Mark, Phenix City, Alabama

May 26, 2006 - Msg 4098: I love these old reruns and I record them all, but when the show airs without Don Knotts (and I discover an episode with Don's replacement), it's like coming home from the bakery after buying a dozen doughnuts --opening the bag only to find I got 11 doughnuts, not all 12. The Andy Griffith Show without Don Knotts (for me) was never the same.

May 26, 2006 - Msg 4099: Mr. Knotts will live forever in the hearts of all Maybery fans! I don't care how bad life can be at times, as we are all challenged every day. He touched so many lives, and continues to touch us all, every time we watch his simple genius. No matter how many times I watch the show, I never grow tired of it. I laugh every single time! June 03, 2006 - Msg 4131: I was born in the seventies and grew up in the 80's. I loved watching you as a child and now, as a mother of two young girls, 3 and 1, in our big sign of the times SUV with a dvd entertainment center, the only thing that replaces Sesame Street in the dvd is the Andy Griffith Show. For Christmas, my husband and I purchased seasons 1-4 for our children. We wanted them to know what life was once like, what we all wish life was like now. Simpler and kinder, slower and more relaxed. We also go to bed at night watching you and Andy either on TV Land or on dvd. My 3 year old, when asked what she wants to watch, she says either Barney or the Andy Griffth Show. She's not talking about the purple dinosaur, I know. She loves the episode where you and Andy try to civilize Ernest T, and will always giggle and say, "How do you do Missus Wil lee", pronounced just like the show. Oh, for the lessons to be presented so kindly and taken as learned so gently by both adults and children. As a school teacher, I can certainly say, more children desire the kind of life you all had in Mayberry to the sad lives they lead today. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I cried when I read of your departure. You were and still are a treasure. Angie and her two red-haired girls (like Opie)

What I really enjoyed is when Andy got the best of Barney, and the faces and things that Barney whould do, to this day makes me wish that I lived in Mayberry. It was a special show, and Barney just made it so much fun to watch. It sure would be nice to have a neighbor and friend such as Barney and Don. Miss you, and will continue to watch your brilliance. I used to live in King, NC where Pilot Mtn. is. Actually it was in my back yard. To this day I remember watching TAGS every single night with my parents and younger brother. It brought us all close together. I wish more people could find there way back to Mayberry. Thanks Don for keeping us "real."

June 09, 2006 - Msg 4146: It,s sad to Don pass away. I always wished I would have the honor of meeting him. June 13, 2006 - Msg 4159: I grew up without a father and a mother who was frequently in drug rehab. My reflection as to where I get my morals and sense of right and wrong is that I grew up often alone but watched alot of Andy Griffith, father knows best, and many others. The Andy Griffith show was my favorite and tuaght me the most I believe.

June 13, 2006 - Msg 4160: Sorry for the spelling above. There were no spelling lessons on the show :)

June 13, 2006 - Msg 4161: No one could play that nervous character that always seem to overcome his fears like Don Knotts. Barney was always there for Andy. He made facing my fears a little easier.

June 13, 2006 - Msg 4162: "What just One Person did with His Life"
Don Knott's, "Barney Fife" is a great example of what life is all about. Such a great and moving spirit he was, to live life to the fullest. He wanted to become an entertainer so bad, and it showed through his best performaces on the Andy Griffith Show. How great Andy Griffith was to help Don get the role of Barney Fife. What great chemistry there was there between the two, and all the characters on this show. Don became one of the best true performers of all time, and in Andy's own words "The person that made the show happen". What I really admired about the show, and everyone, was they didn't sell out back then, to make people watch, they just did their thing, and people loved it. I'm only 32, and I watch the show any free time I have. Don Knott's touched so many people, can you even imagine The Andy Griffith Show or our world without Don Knott's? What a great life one person such as he must of had. What I would do, to just go back in time, and just sit along side of the filming crew watching the great performaces take place live of Don, Andy, and the whole cast. What a time that must of been. I always wanted to meet Don Knott's before he passed away, but since that time has passed to ever be possible, the best thing to do now is just keep his love and spirit alive, and give this gift to others, We all know too well that his spirit will always be, and on the "Andy Griffith Show". We Love You Don Knott's, Thank you for being you, so many could lern from you today.

June 13, 2006 - Msg 4164: Here is a small part of a "Larry King Show" transcript you maybe all like to read and listen to Andy and Don of what it was like then.

"Larry King, Andy Griffith and Don Knott's"

LARRY KING: Andy, when you were first on this show for that wonderful hour we did, the retrospective of your career -- and we're going to touch aspects of both of your careers -- you almost started to cry when you talked about Don Knotts. And you said that Don -- in your opinion, Don Knotts was the key to the success of that show. Would you elaborate?

GRIFFITH: I think he was because in the beginning, I was supposed to be -- Don wasn't part of the picture. And I was supposed to be funny and tell little funny stories about the people in Mayberry. And when Don joined the show, by the second episode, I knew that Don should be funny and I should play straight for him. And that made -- that, I think, made the difference in the show.

KNOTTS: Yes.

GRIFFITH: And it gave -- it gave us so much latitude. We could do all manner of kinds of different stories that way.

KING: Was it easy for you to be a klutz?

(LAUGHTER)

KNOTTS: Yes!

KING: That came naturally to you.

KNOTTS: That's right.

(LAUGHTER)

KING: How did you avoid breaking up, Andy, working with him.

GRIFFITH: I didn't -- I didn't always get by. I laughed at him a lot.

KING: Easy to understand.

GRIFFITH: We laughed off camera a lot.

KNOTTS: Yes! We did a lot of laughing on the set, that's for sure.

"Wish we could of all laughed with them"

June 13, 2006 - Msg 4165: Don i haven't been watching your show that long i just really got into it ive been collecting your seasons i allready have season 4 & 6 Don you bring smiles to my face every time i watch it
maybe someday i will meet you up there

June 13, 2006 - Msg 4166: I know there will never be another Don Knott's or Barney Fife, and that's ok because shows will never be like they made the the Andy Griffith show back then either, so true to the people that played the characters - Pure and innocent. People back then, were not just thinking about how to make as much money as they can, they just wanted to make a good show for audiences to really enjoy, laugh and cry, and characters to care about. Maybe Hollywood could learn something from this show.

June 13, 2006 - Msg 4167: "Later Days of Mayberry"
Why Barney had to leave.
In the fall of 1965, Don Knotts would leave the show to pursue a career in feature films. Griffith had said early on that he only planned to do the show for five years. As that time approached Knotts signed a movie contract. Griffith reconsidered his earlier decision and Knotts, who wanted to continue as Barney, tried to get out of or rework his film contract. The film studio wouldn't consider either option so Knotts had to leave the show.

"How we all wish that part of history could of been changed and Don could of kept his steady role of Barney Fife.".

June 13, 2006 - Msg 4168: Well, this may sound strange from a man to another man, but I loved Don. And when he left the show, I missed him very, very much. And I knew there would be a hole in our show. But I knew there would be a hole in my life, too.

June 15, 2006 - Msg 4175: I was very, very saddened to hear about the passing of Don. I remember as a little boy watching The Andy Griffith Show and brag about it to my children who had no idea about the wonderful shows back then in the 60's. I don't even watch the shows on TV now. I get them to watch Andy, Barney and the rest of the cast. As a matter of fact I visited for the first time Mount Airy, NC on yesterday with three of my children and it brought back wonderful memories. I am so glad they still play the reruns. Barney, there will never be another one like you. My condolences to the family. You and the Mayberry family brought much joy to the lives of countless fans. You guys are loved. June 22, 2006 - Msg 4195: I remeber watching Don Knotts on the Steve Allen show and laughing till I cried. I was probably 10 years old at the time. Don could get you to laugh without saying a word. His expressions created the magic. One more thing I would like to say and that is it was very obvious to me when I watched the Andy Griffith Show as a child and now as an adult that Andy truly cared and had a deep effection for Don Knotts as Don had for Andy. That in itself seems to me to be the magic behind the show. Read the message on June 13, 2006 - Msg 4168. I knew I was right. Thank you Andy for putting together a cast of characters that made our lives a little better every week.
