I watch The Andy Griffith Show everyday, and each time I watch I get as much pleasure as the first time I saw it. It was and will always be a staple in my home. August 10, 2006 - Msg 4390: If anyone has ever seen the movie 61* starring Thomas Jane as Mickey Mantle and Barry Pepper as Roger Maris on the 1961 New York Yankees, there is a scene where Mickey, Roger and their roommate Bob Cerv are at home relaxing afer dinner and they are watching an episode of the Andy Griffith Show. This just goes to show you how much a part of everyone's life the Andy Griffith Show was and still is. Don Knotts played a great role as Barney Fife. There was one episode I remember where Opie has a fight with his new friend Trey, and Barney sees Opie is a little down and tries to console Opie. That was a great scene because it showed that Barney's character, aside from all the goofy comedy, had great depth, empathy and warmth. I will never forget that scene. I guess only an actor like Don Knotts could play such a role. Funny one moment, then serious the next. God Bless, Don Knotts, you have certainly brought countless smiles to all of our faces for generations, and you will continue to do so for countless years in the future thanks to re-runs. :-)

August 19, 2006 - Msg 4406: Now that I am retired I have the wonderful privilege of watching two episodes of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW every day on our local T.V. station. I love all the characters on the show, But I especially enjoy the human nature of "Barney". No one could act this part as well as DON KNOTTS. It is sad that we don't have more clean family shows being produced today with each show having a moral lesson in it as did the Andy Griffith Show. K.Gannill West Plains, Mo.

August 19, 2006 - Msg 4407: The day ole' barn went clear the world lost a peach. Nearing 50 years since the last episode of The Andy Griffith Show filmed it is still one of, if not the most watched and well known shows still being shown in reruns. No offense to the guy who replaced Barney as the deputy but i think everyone will agree that the show was never the same. I think a person with a boat load of money could go to some of the rural towns that have started turning into ghost towns since the free trade agreement has given so many hard working Americans jobs away and buy up the entire towns then turn back the hands of time to the days of Mayberry time and open them up as theme towns, putting the residents back to work in the hotel, dinner, grocery store ,barber shop and so forth, with plants reopening to make every thing from can goods to clothing and furniture with correct lables and styling from the Mayberry era. They would not be able to buy towns and retrostyle them fast enough to keep up with the tousrists and the influx of people who would want to move in as residents. In my opinion Barn was the heart and soul of the atmosphere that made the mythical town of Mayberry a place we all want to live. He was a special man with the rare gift to lift your spirits no matter how low you feel. Be it in an episode of Mayberry or as Mr limpet he could take you away from the fast paced stressfull world we live in today and give us all a brief trip back to a simpler time when the world was a better place. I treasure evry chance i get to watch Mr. Knotts work and i am sure that the folks in Heaven think it is even a better place tahn it was before. Keep that bullet in your pocket Barn and make sure all the folks in Heaven park in the right spots and the old guys playing checkers don't get to oud and diturb the peace. hopefully one day i can sit on the porch with you and digest one of Aunt Bea's big diners.

August 20, 2006 - Msg 4409: I have watched Barney Fife ever since he started fighting crime, or the lack of it in Mayberry. As a dupty, he was a diamond in the rough. As a good friend to Andy, he was a gem. Barney and Andy were two of the most beloved chararters on tv. Barney always caught his guy, with the help of Andy, and Barney was quit the ladies man. I think it was Thelma Lou that captured his heart, and in due time he captured everyone elses. His words of wisdom like nip it in the bud, to his one bullit in his pocket, and all the other Barney quirks, made Barney everyone's friend. I will continue watching this genius, and will always remember him and all the other residents of Mayberry, and how they all captured are hearts. Don Knotts has put his mark on history, and he will always be remembered as the loveable, unpredicable, comic genuis that I'am glad I had a chance to enjoy. You will be greatly missed. A fan forever, Kathy from St. Paul, MN.

August 23, 2006 - Msg 4423: When people ask me what I think Heaven will be, I always say "Mayberry". I will live in the town where Andy and Barney are in charge. Where Aunt Bee always has the dinner on the table, Opie can play anywhere in town he wants, and Thelma Lou and Helen and Gomer and Goober can go to the movie or a dance and it would be great fun. Where the "fun girls" show up every now and again, the Darling's pop in now and then and Ernest T is the town's worst criminal. I always try to live by Andy's code of conduct. Otis may be town drunk-but he is always worthy of your respect.

August 26, 2006 - Msg 4434: There was just the one Don Knotts wasn't there? I met him once in 1991 at the A.G.S. cast reunion in Nashville and had a photo taken with him. Just before the shutter snapped, I turned to him and said,"You know,Mr. Knotts, you really do beat everything, you know that?" The photo shows him looking at me with a big grin on his face as I looked into the camera. It is one of my most treasured possessions. It's a wonderful thing to bring so much entertainment, laughter and pleasure into the world and to be thought of so highly by so many people. Thanks,Don. Your wonderful work will never be forgotten.

August 28, 2006 - Msg 4436: I've often been joked, in a lighthearted way of course, or the Andy Griffith Show being my favorite show; people seem to think it's so old and doesn't relate to my life since I'm only 37; ironically, my six-year-old absolutely LOVES the show and can recite certain parts of some of the shows. She watches the re-runs with me over and over again, and Barney, of course, is my favorite. We were both sad to hear about his death, and I always knew that the death of either Don Knotts or Andy Griffith would make me cry .. and it did; however, the re-runs of my "favorite" show will forever be a comfort to me when I need to laugh; Thank you Don Knotts for all you've given to me -- and my six-year-old.

August 31, 2006 - Msg 4451: you know i posted a long thing earlier about having a mayberry theme town. the more i think about it no amount of money or talented people to try and recreate that type of life could ever be successful without barn, sometimes late at night i can swear i hear the Darling's playing and barn singing will the circle be unbroken. barn off key as usual. i'll soon be 40 and live in a small town that in my childhood wasn't much different than mayberry in all but having barney. September 02, 2006 - Msg 4454: My dad had a heart attacked the other day. He has been in the hosptial. I went up to Best Buy and bought the first 3 seasons of They Andy Griffith Show. So I came home and turned them on. He made me laugh when I needed a friend. I'll have him with me forever. I can pass them along to my children. Most kids don't have any idea who Barney Fife is. They look at you funny when you say your going watch a Don Knotts movie. They look at you and say who? Mine won't. They will be raised on Barney Fife. Mary Lease

September 02, 2006 - Msg 4455: Barney Fife was so important to tv history. He was a true enterainer, and his legend will live on for a very long time. I will always have time in my day to visit all the residents of Mayberry, and laugh at Barney, and when he took control of something, how out of control it became. He always had Andy to make him look good, and Barney knew how important he was to Andy, and all the rest of us. Rest in peace, a fan forever, Kathy

September 05, 2006 - Msg 4460: Don Knotts and the rest of the cast of the Andy Griffith Show will always be a lasting memory of how people should treat each other. I was a police officer for 26 years and many times spoke about my Bullet in my pocket. I do not think there will ever be a more perfect show ever written that will show trust, love, honor and respect for all living things. God bless you "Barney Fife" and the rest of the cast, you placed the bar so high that all others will always be measured by it.

September 06, 2006 - Msg 4461: I have watched TAGS since its inception. I was 7 years old when it started. My family gathered around the TV every week to watch. Since then my kids have watched adn now my little (5 and 6)grandkids watch. When we are all together, my house resounds with "Barneyisms." Don Knotts was truly one of a kind. We miss you, but will see you when its our turn to go to Heaven---or Mayberry, as I call it. Until then, Don, RIP and Mike says Hey.

September 06, 2006 - Msg 4462: I love and will always love Don Knotts, (Creampuff) He makes me laugh every time I watch him, there is a place in my heart for that man. September 07, 2006 - Msg 4463: Andy Griffith Show was and still is an important part of my life. It gives me a variety of emotions, all of which makes my day a good one. Barney Fife will go down in history as the most likeable dupty that ever fought crime, or lack of it. You are truly missed, a fan forever Kathy

September 08, 2006 - Msg 4464: Don Knotts persona crossed racial, economic, and social lines. The Barney Fife character he protrayed was embraceable and embraced by all. When he died, a piece of me went with him. He was a part of my past, my childhood---the eating watermelon on the porch steps, walking barefooted through the meadows, swimming in the creek, beside my uncle's house; no clearer water ever seen. Tears are welling as I write this...Barney Fife was welled loved. One of his sayings that I use, even today, is "Nip it in the bud". It reminds me where I come. A country girl I am and always will be. Forever a fan, Debra.

September 08, 2006 - Msg 4465: Don Knotts and The Andy Griffith Show have been a part of my life since childhood. I feel like I have lost one of my best friends. Barney Fife was the funniest character ever to appear on TV. Even to this day, after seeing those shows hundreds of times, I still laugh. Except now, I laugh with a lump in my throat and sadness in my heart. You will be greatly missed! John

September 14, 2006 - Msg 4475: The Andy Griffith Show is my favorite. I will always have time each day to sit back and visit the good folks of Mayberry. Barney Fife was one of my all time favorites. He and Andy really complimented each other. Don Knotts will stay in all his fans hearts, including me. Kathy

September 14, 2006 - Msg 4476: It is time for the networks and advertisers to return to Mayberry. Stories with a moral and character building value. Nowdays it's all about who can make the biggest noise (i.e. loud supposily makes it better?) and tell the biggest load of hype. When all is said and done, you learned nothing and enjoyed it even less.

You want reality TV? Return to Mayberry, relax and enjoy life. The whole Mayberry group allowed you to enjoy life. I will miss the quiet life, the actors who put out a full 25 minute show you could enjoy. Now, it's maybe 17 minutes of screaming and shouting. For this hype you pay a fortune for something the public did not want.

Other great shows were Dennis the Menace, Leave it to Beaver, Pete and Gladyst, All in the Family, Hogan's Heros, Gomer Pyle USMC, Lassie, Quantum Leap, Maverick.

September 14, 2006 - Msg 4477: Sure miss "Barney"--no one can replace him--:)
I sure hope he was a Christian. Does anyone know if he ever accepted Christ as his personal Saviour? If so, please post it.
Thanks

September 14, 2006 - Msg 4478: What a treasure Barney and the whole cast of TAGS were. In the fast paced, crime-ridden world we live in now, I think we all wish we could go back to Mayberry, where life was good, simple, honest, and safe. My sister moved from Dallas several years ago to a nearby small town called Crandall. She always called that her "Mayberry".
We miss you Barn but thanks to the miracle of videos and DVDs you will live on forever. I always said there would NEVER be another Lucy Ricardo and NEVER another Barney Fife!

September 18, 2006 - Msg 4487: Not to take anything from Andy Griffith, but Don Knotts and Barney Fife made the show and it was not the same when he left. Don Knotts made Barney the best acted character ever on television, then and now.

September 18, 2006 - Msg 4489: the character Barney Fife was one of the funniest characters on tv. When I think of his one bullet in his pocket, or when he said nip it nip it in the bud, or how he was a lady's man, and so on, it just seems that he had more than one character in that skinny body, and only Don Knotts could do Barney Fife justice. You will be missed, a fan kathy

September 19, 2006 - Msg 4490: I know that this is a bit belated, but I just found this website. I did not know Mr. Knotts, nor did I ever meet him, but both he and Andy Griffith were among the top 5 people that I would love to meet in my life. God bless, Mr. Knotts - you are sorely missed! I offer my most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends for their loss.

September 21, 2006 - Msg 4497: Thatta Boy, Luther!!
Since its almost halloween, the sound of that sure feels the air of the ghost and mr. chicken. Barney and Andy made me laugh, cry and just live my life in a simple way. TAGS was a show that everyone in the house could watch. There wasnt any racy or violent comedy on this show, which, today is a rare breed. It was wholesome fun, which to me, is genius at work. Thank you Don and Andy for giving America that.

September 21, 2006 - Msg 4498: You are greatly missed!

September 21, 2006 - Msg 4499: I have always love the Andy Griffith Show. The setting and great acting from Andy Griffith & Don Knotts is magnificent. JWK, Indep. Mo.

September 21, 2006 - Msg 4500: the andy griffith show is the greatest show ever we will miss you barney.

September 21, 2006 - Msg 4501: Barney, Barney, Barney! There will never be another like him. Don Knotts was a comedic genius in creating this character. He will never die as long as there are reruns of TAGS!

September 22, 2006 - Msg 4502: The Andy Griffith show was like The Ozzie & Harriet show they were just plain good family shows. When I was a kid everybody wanted their home life to be like the Nelsons, no big problems and the cast were like your neighbors. When you started watching the Andy Griffith show you wished you lived in a town like Mayberry, where you could walk down the street and say Hi Barney how are doing ? the magic of the show was that everybody in it was like a neighbor in your own home town. We just wished we had a town as peaceful as Mayberry. I enjoyed everything you did Don thru out your acting career you will be missed. to borrow a line from a movie with Jackie Gleason "until that time"

September 23, 2006 - Msg 4503: Andy Griffith Show was one of the shows that I really looked forward to watching when it aired in the sixties, and I look forward to watching it even more today. This is where they just don't make them like they use to holds true. I find that I watch the reruns of the classic more than any shows that they have on tv today. Barney Fife was and will always be my favorite charater. He will be greatly missed.

September 23, 2006 - Msg 4504: Barney and Andy were like having extra fathers who tried to teach you how to live happily. Tried to teach you right from wrong. You learned to enjoy the simple things in life and never wanted for much more. I am 23 years old and there contributed so much to my life and I'm sure that my children will watch them and hopefully get the same lessons that I got. I cant believe he's gone. He was truly beautiful. I hope that Andy and Barney know how much they meant and you cant help being a little resentful of Opie for actually being able to learn from them and really know them. It breaks my heart to know how old Andy actually is and to know we will loose him someday. I really love them both and God bless them Always.

September 25, 2006 - Msg 4505: I grew up watching the Andy Griffith show. In real life Opie and I are the same age. The memories of what a simple life we had back then. Even though I know just about every next scene and line I still watch the show. It takes me back to the early 60's when I was a kid and life was so simple. Godspeed Don and best wishes for you Andy.

Ernie, Oak Hills, Ca.

September 26, 2006 - Msg 4506: Barney Fife, Ralph Furley, Don Knotts. Three in one. Like the Father, son and the holy ghost. September 28, 2006 - Msg 4511: Mr. Knotts...I was born 4 yrs after THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW ended in 1968, but ever since the 1990's the wholesome classic touched a core with me. They don't make em' like that anymore! Andy is a very special man, & you to guys were like brothers to me...Gone are the days when comedy didn't need to be dirty, to be funny.

The other reason I think THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW was special, was because it was not only wholesome & funny; but it taught basic values which shows these days don't even bother with anymore!

I miss you dearly, Don!

September 28, 2006 - Msg 4512: I can hardly believe its almost been 8 months since your death Mr. Donald Knotts! As Barney, you touch our hearts...You'll never know the like of this world ever again!
However...Your legend shall live on, long after we're gone ourselves!
Even though I'm 34....I would've given anything to have been born in those days, when John Fitzgerald Kennedy was running for President in 1960, & THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW debuted on television! Back then...Everything seemed possible!
This is Mark Tennant of Toronto, Canada saying...Farewell Don, thanks for being the loving funny deputy known as Barney Fife!
May God grant your friends & family continued solace, & may you R.I.P. Dear Sir!

September 28, 2006 - Msg 4513: You were very special. & back in October of 1960, a very special comedy filled with basic values & great comedy made its debut...Hey Barn! you were very right indeed, when you said these last words..."When you are a law man & you're dealing with people, it isn't so important to just go by the book..But by the heart."

Mr. Knotts...You were a great man, because you went by the heart...& you have, & you continue to touch our hearts whether we are young or old!
From: Mark Gordon-Tennant of Toronto, Canada.

September 28, 2006 - Msg 4514: A Simple time, a simple place if Mayberry in the 1960's was indeed like what I like to call HEAVEN ON EARTH, then... Donald Knotts, I hope that you have found your Mayberry in Heaven!
