FLORENCE, Ala. - University of North Alabama alumnus and entertainer George Lindsey, of Nashville, Tenn., announced that the deadline for competition entries for the 2001 George Lindsey/UNA Television and Film Festival is January 15, 2001.

The festival, coordinated by Lisa Darnell of the UNA Department of Communications and Theatre, will feature professional, faculty and student national competitions in various forms of film and video. The festival will feature workshops, screenings of the entries and an awards gala.

The Lindsey/UNA Festival began in 1998 to serve as a tool for education, particularly for Alabama high school and college students. However, it has attracted entries from across the nation and Canada.

Several entries from the previous three years have been aired on national television or screened in theatres.

Entry categories are divided into professional, faculty and student divisions. The category entries must have been completed during 1999 or 2000. The categories for professional student entries are full length narrative, short narrative, short documentary and music videos. The faculty category is for open submissions.

Entry fees for professionals and faculty are $50 per entry and $25 for students.

For information or to receive an application form, call (256) 765-4247 or (256) 765-4225 or email to filmfest@unanov.una.edu. Festival dates are April 19-21, 2001.
