March 06, 2006 - Msg 3235: I was so glad to hear that Andy Griffith was with Don when he passed; what a comfort for Don, whether he really knew Andy was there or not.

I am yet another Baby Boomer(turning 50 next weekend) who was fortunate enough to have the Andy Griffith Show and the talents of Don Knotts growing up. In addition to his comic timing and genius were the faces!! In most, if not all, of his parts in every movie and tv show, his facial expressions made those certain lines ten times funnier!! What a gift that he shared with so many, to make so many lives so rich.

Most know the show a bit and while there are a few that could care less the majority enjoy it. There is laughter, smiles and even some genuine reflection on the morals taught through the simple stories of Mayberry. Today we watched "Opie and the Bully" and the kids got a real kick out of Barney running around town spying on Opie. He and the show will never be dated. His comedy will last forever. March 07, 2006 - Msg 3266: Andy Griffith may have gotten top-billing, but Don Knotts was CLEARLY the star of that cool little show. Most of the scripts dealt directly with Barney Fife's misadventures, and Don Knotts played them wonderfully. If ever an actor has nailed a character perfectly and beautifully, it's Don Knotts' treatment of Barney Fife.

I love Barney Fife. He's my all-time favorite classic t.v. character.

Godspeed, Mr. Knotts.

And Thank You. Thank you for everything.

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3270: We all find our way home, going down that ol' dirt road, and skippin a stone or two on the lake. I too watched TAGS growing up. I'm 47 and now thinking of all the stars that we've lost, I now feel very old. There's many episodes of TAGS that are great. But right now, what comes to mind is the one where Andy is yanked from his house to deliver a baby. Let alone that Barney, Floyd & gommer are in the bushes. It's when Andy comes out after the storm, stands on the porch, lights a smoke. (that tells you everythings going to be ok.) Andy please come out and light that cigerett now.

Thank you Don for the laughs, smiles and lessions shared & learned. You'll always be remembered.

Walks down thru town, to that dirt road, past the service sation, to the lake. Taking time to remember & pray for Don Knotts aka Barney.

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3272: Mayberry and the folks that lived there are a place and time that we all need more of on a daily basis! I find that the older I get the more I want Mayberry physically and mentally - a place to sit on the porch in the evenings with family and friends just to enjoy the night fall and then to enjoy the stars and the moon! We have come so far away from this life and spend so much time being "Advanced" I just wonder how much we look back and wonder is it all worth what we have sold our souls for! I am so sorry to hear that Mr. Knotts has passed but we know one thing he is now in "Mayberry" having a piece of Aunt Bea's homemade pies and a cup of her coffee there in the kitchen - what a great thought!

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3273: Thanks for taking me to Mayberry for a half an hour every night.

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3274: I too watched the programs on TV this weekend. I also shed some tears for this man who so endeared us all. May God be with the family and friends who must have deeply loved this man. We will all

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3275: Just had to add, my favorite episode was probably when Barney and Thelma had made up , and Andy knocked on the door. Thelma opened the door and Barney was on the couch drinking coffee. His hair was sticking up, and lipstick was all over his face!I still laugh just thinking about that one.
Oh and yes , I pray that Don Knots is in heaven, and yes, he will be allowed to sing in heaven's choir! The times when he was allowed to sing , he had a beautiful tenor voice!

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3279: Well said, Melanie, in Msg. 3257. I agree completely. Andy Griffith lost a true friend. My heart goes out to him. Don and Andy made that show what it is - a monument to true friendship. Unfortunately, in our hurried, transient world, few people ever get to experience that.

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3286: With the world so scary today, sometimes you just want to stay home and hide, tune into shows like TAGS and escape for just a few hours or so. I am a baby boomer, almost 60, and I find I enjoy the old shows more than some of the new ones. In doing so, our "friends" never age....Barney will always be Barney, and Opie will aways be a little kid, not Ron Howard, the director. When we heard of Don's passing, the first thought is, this YOUNG BARNEY died.......we forget he was 81 and hopefully had a good, fulfilling life. He certainly gave us so much and will be remembered for many years to come. I feel like I have lost a friend, but such a good friend, that he left me with many hours where I could still "visit" with him, and forget that he's really gone. Barney will live forever in my heart. I wish I knew him and could thank him for all that he's given us...Gloria

Yep..I think hillbilly livin may be the best way to live life...in a small close knit mtn town away from the interstates and the SYSTEM...hillbillies are seen as not as smart ... but their other ingredients are even more important for a happy life....the ingredients of not needing or wanting much to be satisfied... the ingredients of not letting things bother them.. like chickens and animals running loose on the porches and yards and messes around...Yep hillbillies do have special ingredients that help in living life really well..the mayberry people hardly ever left town... they were satisfied to just live life in their town..we all should learn to live simple and live life just like mayberry and the hillbilly lifestyle... easily satisfied people are the BEST to live with....i'm in my 50's making plans to move out of the rat race areas and into one of those hillbilly mayberry towns..these people uses their time on enjoying thoughts and feelings and sweet memories of their loved ones..I may3 write into a hillbilly towns newspaper for a yr . and the town will know me before i get there......hey good mayberry hillbilly women wave at me i'm a bachelor still looking!! he he he...

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3290: My wife and I stumbled upon the marathon this past weekend as well. I got into a long conversation with both her and a good friend of mine afterward. I'm going to sound really old fashioned now. You just can get good sitcom like that anymore! What magic they had. None of those actors should ever have/had hung their heads if only being part of a "sitcom" cast in the height of their careers! If that show was the only work they ever had in the acting business I say, "what a career"!

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3298: Andy Griffith was at Don's bedside just before he passed away, like a TRUE friend he was. Don Knotts was like a brother to Andy, he has said so many times. What a huge loss. I owe my whole childhood of fun and laughter, and as an adult to Andy and Barney and what good people they were, as well as the entire cast of characters in Mayberry.

It was just plain good old fashioned goodness. Thanks Mr. Knotts, I know that they are not dead, that go in the lives of the living.

To this day, the show inspires me to remember what's important in life - friends, love, laughter, the Golden Rule, and a respect for our Creator. Don Knotts' creation, Barney Fife, will be my friend for the rest of my life here on earth. Well done, Mr. Knotts! March 07, 2006 - Msg 3323: A real real good friend of mine, Angie, who I haven't talked to for a long time, lives in the Carolinas. We used to talk on the phone alot and I began calling her "Ange" because I was always telling her about Barney's antics and how Barney called Andy "Ange." After that, she called me and said "Hey Barn", just the way Andy would talk to Barney. Point being: Isn't it so ironic (and incredible) how Barney, Andy and TAGS have become such a part of our lives that they are referred to so much in our everyday lingo and conversation? If ya read this Angie.....Hey Ange! Chris Bartlett, Cumberland, MD

March 07, 2006 - Msg 3327: Don Knotts being Barney Fife is one of the if not the best characters ever. Don Knotts was Barney Fife.
I have been watching The Andy Griffith Show for years and it is sad to believe that Don Knotts is gone. Not to put the rest of the actors behind him, because all the actors and characters put a special blend to the show, but I can not watch an Andy Griffith show if it does not have Barney in it. Andy and Barney were the best combination ever.

I just want to say to Don Knotts, thanks for everything. You were one of the greatest.
