40th Anniversary Year Jumping with Celebrations!

Andy, Don, and Betty at Hollywood Walk of Fame
FOUR STARS SHINING BRIGHT -- Andy Griffith and Betty Lynn were among the special guests on hand to honor Don Knotts as he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in January.

In a thrilling explosion of activity, many Mayberry events and celebrations are rapidly filling the 2000 calendar with truly fun things to do.

Just in January alone, TV Land began daily showings of TAGS and "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C."; Don Knotts was joined by Mayberry pals and others as he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; several Mayberry actors appeared at the Hollywood Collectors Show in North Hollywood; A&E premiered its "Biography" of Don Knotts and re-aired its "Biography" installments on Andy Griffith and Ron Howard; and Turner South ran a "Goober Bowl" of "R.F.D." episodes on Super Bowl Sunday.

In February, Mayberry actors appeared at the Hollywood Collectors Show in Houston and E! Channel premiered its "True Hollywood Story" special on TAGS.

In March, the new "Inside TV Land" series of specials featured TAGS and TV Land also aired 48-hour Fandemonium marathons of both TAGS and "Gomer Pyle."

And the enthusiasm for celebrating the 40th Anniversary of TAGS (officially October 3) is just now getting really pumped up.

Fueling the orange and blue flames of Mayberry fever in the months ahead are these events:

  • Don Knotts and Betty Lynn and other TAGS actors will appear at the Hollywood Collectors Show in North Hollywood on April 8 and 9.
  • The Third Annual George Lindsey Television and Film Festival on the UNA campus in Florence, Ala., April 27 to 29.
  • Mayberry Fan Fest in Cullman, Ala., on May 13.
  • Mule Days in Gordo, Ala., June 2 and 3, featuring character impersonators Allan "Floyd" Newsome, Jamie "Opie" Sullivan and possibly a TAGS cast member.
  • Mayberry at MeadowView 3, starring Ronnie Schell, The Dillards, Maggie Peterson Mancuso and Jean Carson, with the VW Boys, David Browning and Allan Newsome, on June 24.
  • The Military Rendezvous (formerly Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous) with possibly three actors with Mayberry connections (plus other stars) in Covington, Ohio, on July 1 and 2.
  • "A Mayberry Reunion" starring Betty Lynn, The Dillards, Maggie Peterson Mancuso and James Best (along with David Browning and Allan Newsome) at the Country Tonite theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., on Aug. 7.
  • Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy, N.C., starring The Doug Dillard Band, Maggie Peterson Mancuso, and other special guests to be announced, Sept. 28-30.

There are also a whole slew of exciting new Mayberry products that have just come out (a lunch box, a sculpted mug, new buildings, an ink pen, salt & pepper shakers, etc.). See the merchandise pages inside (or Weaver's Dept. Store online at tagsrwc.com) for the latest offerings, including the 40th Anniversary TAGS Calendar that's on sale and perfect for keeping track of all of the year's Mayberry happenings!
